At Guru Nanak English School, we believe in fostering a strong foundation for our young learners, encouraging them to grow, explore, and develop essential skills in a nurturing and vibrant environment. Our curriculum for students aged 3-8 years is designed to be engaging, interactive, and fun, ensuring each child’s educational journey is memorable and effective.
1. Early Learning Activities at Guru Nanak English School
For children aged 3-8, our focus is on developing foundational skills, sparking curiosity, and cultivating creativity. The activities are designed to be age-appropriate and enjoyable.
A. Nursery (Ages 3-4)
Language Development:
Story Time: We read colorful picture books and engage the children by asking questions about the characters and storyline to encourage comprehension.
Rhymes and Songs: Our fun nursery rhymes, such as “Twinkle Twinkle” and “Baa Baa Black Sheep,” help improve language skills, memory, and rhythm.
Alphabet Recognition: Children learn the alphabet through interactive games, flashcards, and creative activities.
Basic Math Skills:
Counting and Number Recognition: We introduce numbers 1-10 using toys, blocks, and counting songs.
Shapes and Colors: Children learn about basic shapes (circle, square, triangle) and colors with everyday objects and visual aids.
Motor Skills Development:
Tracing Activities: Children practice tracing shapes, lines, and letters to build fine motor skills.
Art and Craft: With crayons, paints, and clay, students can express their creativity and develop hand-eye coordination.

B. Pre-Kindergarten / Kindergarten (Ages 4-5)

Language and Literacy:
Phonics: We introduce phonetic sounds of letters and simple consonant-vowel combinations to help children with pronunciation.
Sentence Building: Children form simple sentences, such as “I see a cat” and “This is my book,” helping them learn basic sentence structure.
Story Comprehension: Students are encouraged to narrate simple stories from their favorite books, boosting imagination and language skills.
Mathematical Concepts:
Simple Addition and Subtraction: Children practice basic addition and subtraction with visual aids such as objects and hands.
Patterns and Sequences: We teach children to identify and create simple patterns, like red, blue, red, blue, etc.
Social Skills Development:
Sharing and Cooperation: Through games and group activities, we teach children how to share and collaborate.
Good Manners: We emphasize the importance of saying “please” and “thank you,” helping children develop basic etiquette.
C. Class I (Ages 6-7)
Reading and Writing:
Basic Sentence Structure: Children practice writing simple sentences with proper punctuation, such as “The dog is brown.”
Sight Words: We introduce common sight words to help students read fluently and build their vocabulary.
Creative Writing: Students are encouraged to write short stories or label their drawings with words, enhancing their writing skills.
Mathematics:

Number Patterns: Students practice skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s.

Science and Nature:

D. Class II (Ages 7-8)

Reading and Comprehension:
Story Analysis: Students read short stories and engage in discussions about the main ideas, characters, and events, fostering deeper comprehension.
Vocabulary Building: New words are introduced every week, and children are encouraged to use them in their sentences.
Poetry and Rhymes: Children memorize simple poems and perform them, enhancing both memory and oratory skills.
Mathematics:
Addition/Subtraction (up to 100): Children practice addition and subtraction with numbers up to 100 through word problems.
Introduction to Multiplication: Basic multiplication facts (e.g., 2×2, 3×3) are introduced in a fun and engaging way.
Money and Shopping: We teach students to recognize coins and bills, solving simple “shopping” math problems.
Science and Nature:
The Human Body: Students learn about basic body parts and their functions, helping them understand their own anatomy.
Plants and Animals: We explore different plants and animals, focusing on their habitats, life cycles, and characteristics.
Art and Creativity:
